No-poo 2nd Wash, Comfort of Water

I washed my hair yesterday (April 11), so that's 5 days in-between the last wash.  I probably could have gone longer, but I needed a long shower. Water and how it holds around my skin gives me such a comforting feeling.  Taking a shower, to me, is therapeutic when I'm feeling down.  Showering to me is sometimes just to get clean, but sometimes it's because I need a hug.  I needed a hug yesterday :) I'm grateful that I have access to water and it is abundant and free.

No-poo for Social Distancing

I have been a good citizen and practicing social distancing during the COVID19 pandemic.  Since my only interaction with coworkers are through virtual meetings, emails and texts, I've decided to test out this no-poo method once again. I've been curious about this no-poo method, because I still remember the days when I was little (about under 8 years old), I would wash my hair once a week.  My hair felt soft and I don't ever remember having dandruff at that time.  Dandruff wasn't even a problem for me in high school.  I can't remember quite when it started, but dry scalp is now an issue I have every Canadian winter.  I get about a day and maybe 2 of clear scalp then my skin starts to shed like a molting snake. I have tried this no-poo once before, where shampoo is replaced with baking soda and vinegar-water mix in lieu of conditioner.  I didn't like it too much.  Honestly, my dad uses baking soda to tenderize meat, so I felt a bit weirded out and wo...

OCM ruined my face..

Oil cleansing method (OCM) is apparently this amazing new way to clean the face without the harsh chemicals and supposedly leaving the face moisturized, blemish free, etc.  I've never really had a problem with acne and even during my teens, my break outs weren't really serious compared to my peers... Now in my thirties, I was getting these odd one or two pimples only during that time of the month... Until one day I tried tea tree essential oil straight on my face to fix two pimples that showed up before my period.  Instead of just spot treatment, I applied my whole face with straight tea tree oil.  BAD IDEA, my skin felt raw the next day, it was as if the essential oil "ate" through a layer of my skin.  To fix it, I searched online and came across the OCM... that's when my skin went from bad to worse.  The worse it has ever been in my entire life. My face became peppered with angry red papules! It was so insane that a friend asked if I ate something that cau...

Juicer came and gone

So I had purchased a juicer from Costco, made by Salton.  It looked exactly the same as the Hurom juicer (my coworker has that juicer and we compared it) that cost twice as much (I paid just over 200$ for mine tax included).  I had it for just over a month and the part that looks like the strainer cracked.  Good thing, Costco has an amazing return policy and back it goes.  You can tell just by handling the parts that the Hurom juicer is a much better quality machine than the Salton one.  The fact that my coworker has the Hurom one for 4 years and it's still in perfect condition and my Salton cracked after a month... I have to say you get what you pay for.  I didn't notice the crack until the day I juiced raspberries.  I think maybe the seeds were too much for that juicer to handle.  But boy, that raspberry juice was the best juice I've ever had! While I had the juicer, I used it everyday for a morning green juice.  I have this recipe from m...

First post for 2013

Wow, I've been really bad with posting on this blog.  It's well into 2013 and this is my first post.  A few things has changed since my last post.  I have a gym membership and I try to go at least 3 times a week.  I have been pretty good so far. As the weather is getting warmer, I am eating out more and more... It's hard to say no to a beer on a patio and then consequently to a restaurant meal.  I usually try to eat home as I eat healthier when I cook my meals.  There's something about paying $ for a salad.. Salads are just so easy to make and cost a fraction of what they charge at the restaurant.  I rarely eat salads at home, but when I do, I go all out... With roasted beets, goat cheese, etc.  So often restaurant salads don't event look appealing to me, unless it's a very upscale restaurant with creative ingredients. I have watched 2 documentaries on fasting.  One's "Eat, Fast and Live Longer" and the other "Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead"...

Another kind of salad

I am sometimes forced to be "creative" with food because I hate wasting.  I have made lasagna with tofu and cilantro in the past, because I had some left over tofu and cilantro that were on its last leg.. and I really really wanted to have some lasagna.  Then the "cilantro tofu lasagna" was born.  I won't bother with the recipe because it was pretty bad! Tonight, it's a different story! I made up a salad that's worthy of posting the recipe.  It's a bit "weird" I suppose :) but I am known to eat "weird" food.  Here it is.. and as you have guessed, one or many of the ingredients were about to expire and that's why they were thrown in together. Salty egg Greek inspired salad (Serves 1) 1 Salty egg cooked, diced 1/3 English cucumber sliced 1/3 to 1/2 pint of grapes tomatoes halved 3 to 4 tablespoon of yogurt Instruction is simple: Mix everything together! and Tata! Salty egg salad. I think 1 salty egg was a b...

Vegetarian Turkish Moussaka

I think to most people, "moussaka" is the Greek version of the lasagna but layered with eggplant and ground beef, potatoes and bechamel sauce.  I was one of those people too, until I visited Turkey.  I remember seeing moussaka on the menu and was sooo excited for it, until the waiter served it in front of me.  I thought.. "Hey, he messed up my order".  But nope, he didn't.  Turkish moussaka is a stir-fry.  It has eggplant in it as well but taste very different from the Greek moussaka.  Tonight I tried my own version of the vegetarian one,  replacing ground beef with tofu.  The taste of meat does add that little something to the dish, so I honestly have to say the vegetarian one is not as good.. but it's pretty good! Turkish Moussaka a la vegetarian! 1 medium eggplant cubed (I used Chinese eggplant sometimes) 1 green bell pepper cubed 1 medium onion cubed 2 cloves of garlic minced 4 Roma tomatoes from a canned tomato (I use one that has...
